Abstract

This thesis analyzes the Use of Social Capital as a Survival Strategy for Tempe Craftsmen in Tembarak Village, Kertosono District. This research explains the forms of social capital and the impact of the application of social capital carried out by tempe craftsmen in running their business. In this research the author uses a qualitative research method with an case study approach. The theory used in this research is the theory of social capital by Robert D. Putnam. The author found that a social network had been established between fellow tempe craftsmen and between tempe craftsmen and buyers. Tempeh craftsmen in Tembarak Village have also implemented elements of social capital such as social networks, beliefs and norms. In maintaining their business, tempeh craftsmen also apply the values of honesty, politeness and friendliness. This has proven effective in attracting buyers and even making buyers willing to subscribe. The research results show that social capital has an important role in the sustainability of a business. The implementation of social capital has many positive impacts for business actors, in this case the tempeh craftsmen in Tembarak Village.
