Abstract

Nining Linda Ligma: The Habitual Practice of Religious Activities (Dhuha Prayer) in Shaping Students’ Religious Character at Thoriqul Ulum Vocational High School, Pacet Mojokerto, Islamic Education Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Darul Ulum Jombang, 2025.

This study is motivated by the importance of shaping students’ religious character as one of the national education goals, which can be realized through the habituation of religious activities within the school environment. One such activity is the habitual performance of the Dhuha prayer, which not only serves as an act of worship but also functions as a means of moral and spiritual development. This research, entitled “The Habitual Practice of Religious Activities (Dhuha Prayer) in Shaping Students’ Religious Character at Thoriqul Ulum Vocational High School,” aims to describe how the habituation of Dhuha prayer contributes to building students’ religious character at SMK Thoriqul Ulum.

The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The research was conducted at SMK Thoriqul Ulum, a vocational institution located in Sajen Village, Pacet District, Mojokerto Regency. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with religious teachers, the principal, and students, as well as documentation of religious activities at the school.

The results show that the Dhuha prayer habituation is scheduled daily before the start of teaching and learning activities. The activity begins with guidance, followed by congregational Dhuha prayer led by either a teacher or a student. Supporting factors include full support from the school administration, a fixed schedule, and the active role of the student council’s religious division. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include morning meetings and rainy weather. Overall, the habituation of Dhuha prayer has a positive contribution to the formation of students’ religious character, reflected in their increased awareness of worship, discipline, gratitude, and respect toward teachers and peers.

Thus, religious habituation activities such as Dhuha prayer can serve as an effective strategy to continuously develop students’ religious character within the school environment.
