Abstract

The development of information technology has made digital devices such as smartphones,
tablets, and computers an integral part of the learning process. This study aims to analyze
the effect of gadget use on the development of students’ digital literacy at MA Hasyim Asy’ari
Jogoroto, Jombang.
The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The
instruments used were questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The sample consisted
of 50 students selected using purposive sampling from a total population of 399 students.
Data analysis was conducted using the product moment correlation technique. The
calculation results showed that the correlation coefficient (r) was 0.8519, which is greater
than the critical value of 0.2787 at a 5% significance level. This indicates a significant
relationship between gadget use and the development of students’ digital literacy. The
contribution of gadget use to digital literacy reached 72.57%, while the remaining 27.43%
was influenced by other factors such as the learning environment, parental support, and
student motivation.
In conclusion, gadgets can serve as an effective tool to support learning and improve digital
literacy skills, provided they are used optimally under the supervision of teachers and
parents.
