Abstract

Traffic accidents are one of the main issues in the land transportation system,
including in Jombang Regency, which is traversed by a strategic national road. This
study aims to analyze the level of traffic accidents and identify accident-prone
locations on the Jombang–Kertosono National Road from KM 82 to KM 90. The
methods used are the Accident Equivalent Number (AEK) to measure the severity
level based on the number and type of casualties, and the Upper Control Limit
(UCL) as a statistical approach to determine the threshold for accident-prone areas.
The data used is secondary data obtained from the Jombang Police Traffic Unit for
the period 2020–2024. The results show that Segment 1 (KM 82–KM 85) has the
highest AEK value of 11.33, exceeding the UCL value of 10.24, indicating that this
location is a black spot. Most accidents occurred during rush hours (morning and
evening), were dominated by two-wheeled vehicles, and involved victims in the
productive age group (15–30 years). The main contributing factors to the accidents
include driver negligence, traffic congestion, and lack of road safety facilities.
These findings are expected to serve as a basis for relevant authorities in
formulating traffic safety improvement policies and as a reference for similar academi research.
