Abstract

Picohydro Power Plant is one of the alternative small power plants that can be used to drive turbines that can generate electricity. The problem that often occurs in the Picohydro power plant system is the occurrence of frequency instability caused by changes in the connected load. This problem can cause damage to electrical equipment. Therefore, a technology is needed to optimize the performance of the picohydro power plant, namely by implementing Load Frequency Control (LFC). This LFC mechanism is designed using Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) and Capacitive Energy Storage (CES). CES can be used to maintain frequency stability in the electricity network that is susceptible to fluctuations, such as networks connected to unpredictable power plants. In this study, Picohydro Power Plant will be simulated without control, PID FA control, CES control and PID CES FA control. From the four simulation models of Picohydro Power Plant and the relationship of its response diagram, it can be concluded that the best controller in this study is PID-CES FA, which is obtained undershoots of -0.000002324 and overshoot 0.0000004965 with a settling time of 3.026 seconds. By applying the PID-CES FA method to Picohydro Power Plant, it will be able to produce a better frequency compared to using no control, PID-FA control or with CES control alone.
