Abstract

ABSTRACT
PERFORMANCE OF CORN HUSK NATURAL FIBER COMPOSITE AS A MATERIAL FOR MAKING CAR BUMPERS
Ricki Adi Cahyono 192321201003

In a car vehicle there are several components, one of which is the bumper, which is an important structure to protect the exterior and is designed to receive impact loads due to low-speed collisions. In general, bumpers use lightweight metal materials. Along with the development of technology using materials from natural fiber reinforced composites. In the purpose of this study, I as the author want to analyze the volume fraction of empty space (Vv), toughness test and fracture pattern of natural fiber composites made of corn husks as materials for making car bumpers. In this study, the material used for testing was a composite made of natural fiber corn husks. With a matrix volume (Vm) of 0.4, 0.5, and 0.6. For immersion using alkali NaOH, KOH, and Ca (OH) 2. In this study, descriptive analysis was used with data obtained from the test presented in graphical form and then analyzed using descriptive analysis. In this study, the highest results were obtained in NaOH immersion using a matrix volume fraction (Vm) (0.4) getting the smallest empty space volume fraction (Vv) with a result of 0.9251%, the largest impact strength (IS) value getting a result of 78.88kj/m2, and the fracture pattern showed a ductile fracture, while the lowest results in KOH immersion using a matrix volume fraction (Vm) of 0.5 getting the largest empty space volume fraction (Vv) getting a value of 2.8025%, the smallest impact strength (IS) value getting a result of 16.05 kj/m2 and showing a brittle fracture pattern.
