Abstract

Pesantren, as an Islamic educational institution in Indonesia, plays a significant role in shaping students' character, religious knowledge, and skills. In the pesantren tradition, education is not solely focused on religious instruction, but also on the development of morals, life skills, and the ability to engage in da'wah (Islamic preaching). Therefore, various activities in pesantren combine religious knowledge with practical da'wah experiences, which can enhance public speaking skills.
This study aims to describe and analyze the culture of Pesantren Darul Ulum through the preaching skills (muballighin) of male students at Al-Husna Dormitory, Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Jombang. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation.
The results of the study show that the pesantren culture plays a crucial role in developing the preaching skills of the students, particularly in terms of public speaking confidence, mastery of da'wah content, and ethical delivery. The consistent cultural practices and supportive environment within the pesantren help students become more well-trained and confident in delivering religious messages. This research illustrates that the intensive habituation of pesantren culture can serve as an effective medium for enhancing students' da'wah skills.
The conclusion of this study is that the muballighin training conducted at Al-Husna dormitory is part of the pesantren culture that teaches students to speak or preach in public. There are various pesantren cultural practices at Al-Husna dormitory, such as musyawarah (deliberation), khitobah practice, Friday sermon practice, reading classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning), muhadhoroh (speech training), leading tahlil, istighotsah, and others. These activities help students become accustomed to conveying goodness to others. This, in turn, fosters their self- confidence, public speaking abilities, and enthusiasm for da'wah.
