Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Point-Counterpoint Method in
improving students' critical thinking skills in Fiqh for grade 10 students at
Madrasah Aliyah Hidayatul Qur'an Jombang. The background of this study was
low student participation and enthusiasm due to monotonous learning. The Point
Counterpoint Method is a discussion strategy that involves differing opinions from
various perspectives, thus encouraging students to think more critically.
This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using the
Intact Group Comparison type. The sample consisted of 33 students, divided into
an experimental group (17 students) and a control group (16 students). The
instruments used were a pretest and a posttest.
The results showed that the average posttest score for the experimental group was
82.6, while the control group's score was 59. The T-test results showed a
significance value of 0.00 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference. Thus, the
Point-Counterpoint Method is effective in improving students' critical thinking
skills in Islamic Jurisprudence learning.
