THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PESANTREN PROGRAM IN REHABILITATING DRUG ADDICTS AT BAHRUL MAGHFIROH PESANTREN, LOWOKWARU, MALANG CITY

Drug abuse is a serious problem that damages the physical, mental, and social
conditions of its users. Rehabilitation efforts are therefore crucial in helping addicts
return to a normal life. This study addresses the effectiveness of the pesantren
program in rehabilitating drug addicts, with a focus on Bahrul Maghfiroh Pesantren,
Lowokwaru, Malang City, which functions as an “Institusi Penerima Wajib Lapor”
(Compulsory Reporting Institution/IPWL) within a faith-based social rehabilitation
program.
This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research
was conducted at Bahrul Maghfiroh Pesantren. Data collection techniques included
in-depth interviews with the caretakers of the pesantren, rehabilitation mentors, and
students undergoing rehabilitation programs, as well as direct observation and
documentation of daily activities. The data were analyzed through the processes of
data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions.
The findings indicate that the pesantren’s rehabilitation program has proven
effective. The program includes community therapy based on familial values,
spiritual therapy through worship and religious study, herbal therapy as an
alternative treatment, and outpatient programs. A religious environment, familial
approach, and consistent guidance are the main factors contributing to the
program’s success. The addicts experienced positive behavioral changes, increased
spiritual awareness, and readiness to reintegrate into society.
