Abstract
In the current era of globalization, welding technology has become an essential part of various industrial sectors, particularly in manufacturing and construction. Welding is recognized as a metal joining method that is not only efficient but also economical. This study discusses the effect of electrode variation, groove type, and welding current strength in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) on the tensile strength of ST37 mild steel. Welding was carried out using E6013 electrodes of types RD 2.6, LB 2.6, and RB 2.6, with current variations of 60 A, 70 A, and 80 A, as well as three types of grooves (open I, K, and X). Test specimens were prepared according to ASTM E8 standards, and tensile testing was conducted using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The test data were analyzed using a randomized factorial design and ANOVA to determine the significance of each factor. The results showed that electrode variation and groove type did not have a significant effect on the tensile strength of welded joints, while welding current variation had a significant effect, with an F-value of 26.01 > F-table 4.46 at a 5% significance level. The highest average tensile strength was obtained at 80 A, while electrode and groove variations only resulted in minor differences between samples. Therefore, welding current strength is the main factor influencing the tensile strength quality of ST37 mild steel joints in the SMAW process.
