Harmonization in Difference: The Dynamics of Christian and Muslim Communities in Bongsorejo Hamlet

Bongsorejo Hamlet is one example of extraordinary religious harmonization. Bongsorejo Hamlet is a hamlet where all of its residents are Christians and only a few are Muslims, even though Bongsorejo Hamlet is a Christian minority in the midst of a Muslim majority, especially its location which is surrounded by many Islamic boarding schools, but this does not become a barrier to coexist in everyday life. The purpose of this study is to explain the background, relationship practices and the impact of relations between Christians in Bongsorejo Hamlet and the surrounding pesantren. This research uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects were selected using purposive sampling technique. The data sources used primary and secondary data. Data analysis was carried out through several stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of the study explain that the relationship that exists between churches and pesantren is due to the concept of deep understanding of tolerance which is realized in mutual respect and avoiding conflict. The relationship between churches and Islamic boarding schools plays a vital role for both parties. Both religions have successfully reduced negative prejudices, creating an environment that values diversity. Furthermore, the Islamic boarding schools also receive mutually beneficial practical benefits, such as assistance with asset management and network expansion.
