Abstract

The phenomenon of social separation is a state of social isolation, both physically and mentally. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of social separation among the elderly population, to identify the forms and practices of social separation among the elderly population in Bandung Village. The method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach and employs Peter L Berger and Luckman's social construction theory. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documents, with informants selected using purposive and snowball techniques. The number of informants in this study was 15 elderly individuals. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the elderly in Bandung Village experience social separation in the form of emotional isolation, social isolation, digital divide, and generational gap. The practices they experience include neglect, restricted activities, age stigma, limited mobility, withdrawal from the social environment, feelings of uselessness, health issues, and shifts in family structure. The phenomenon of social separation among older adults in Bandung Village shows a complex interaction between social, cultural, and structural factors. These findings emphasize that social interventions and public policies need to be directed at strengthening the role of families and communitie
