Abstract
Aboge, an acronym for Alif Rebo Wage, refers to adherents of Javanese Islam (Islam Kejawen) who maintain traditional Javanese Islamic practices, utilizing the calendar of Sultan Agung Hanyakrakusuma as a reference for conducting various religious rituals. This study aims to analyze the Representation of the Aboge Community Amidst the Current of Social Transformation (A Case Study in Sumberjo Village, Wonosalam District, Jombang Regency). The objectives are to describe the representation of the religious practices and traditions of the Aboge community and to analyze their adaptation strategies in preserving local traditions amidst modernization. The research employs a qualitative method. Data was collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with key informants (community elders, youth, non-Aboge religious leaders, and surrounding community members), and documentation. Informants were selected purposively based on specific criteria, such as a deep understanding of Aboge traditions and active involvement in the community. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the Aboge community maintains the Alif Rebo Wage calendar system and distinctive rituals such as the Ngrowot fast and Khalwat (seclusion), despite facing challenges from religious homogenization and generational succession. Their adaptation strategies include the intergenerational transmission of values within families, collaboration with Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and village government, and the utilization of digital media for cultural preservation. These findings affirm the cultural resilience of the Aboge community through identity negotiation and creative adaptation in the digital era, while also enriching the understanding of the dynamics of traditional communities within social transformation.
