Abstract

Ahmad Yani Road segment in Kediri City serves as a main corridor connecting various activity centers, but frequently experiences traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. One of the main causes is the suboptimal coordination between traffic signal intersections, particularly the Insinyur Sutami intersection and Imam Bonjol intersection which are located close to each other. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of traffic signal coordination on vehicle delay length and queuing to improve traffic performance. The research method used is descriptive quantitative with primary data collection including road geometric data, traffic volume, signal cycle time, as well as secondary data from related agencies. Analysis was conducted using the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023 approach to calculate vehicle volume in passenger car equivalent (PCE) units, degree of saturation, queue length, delay, as well as signal bandwidth and offset. The research results show that peak hour traffic volume on each intersection approach has different characteristics, with the highest volume at Imam Bonjol Intersection of 1,184 pce/hour on the southern approach of Ahmad Yani Road. Signal bandwidth optimization through cycle time coordination and offset between intersections can improve the road network service level from C to E, thereby reducing delay and increasing traffic flow smoothness. Furthermore, this research also demonstrates that there is a close relationship between traffic volume and degree of saturation in determining the effectiveness of traffic signal intersection coordination, so that intersection coordination optimization based on traffic volume and degree of saturation can significantly reduce queue length and delay time. The results of this research can be used to improve road network performance in Kediri City.
