ABSTRACT
This thesis discusses a normative analysis of fights between players in basketball. Basketball
is a popular sport originating in the United States and continuing to expand worldwide. This
sport involves full-body contact, which can sometimes lead to violence. League rules are
established to maintain sportsmanship in competition and protect players from violent,
violent elements of play. In this regard, the issue addressed in this thesis is whether fights
between players in a basketball match are punishable under Article 351 of the Indonesian
Criminal Code concerning assault.
The purpose of this thesis is to determine and analyze whether fights between players in a
basketball match are punishable under Article 351 of the Indonesian Criminal Code
concerning assault.
The approach used is a normative study based on the perspective of circulating news. Based
on the analysis of legal sources, it can be concluded that fights between basketball players
cannot be punished under Article 351 of the Indonesian Criminal Code because, according to
the latest Official Basketball Rules (regularly updated), throughout the 4 x 10-minute normal
time of a basketball match, it is the authority of PERBASI. And the referee has the right to
impose sanctions if there is a fight between players in a basketball match, in the form of a
foul. Fouls themselves consist of personal fouls, double fouls, unsportsmanlike fouls, and the
most severe is a disqualifying foul. In addition to the referee, the DPP PERBASI has the right
to impose penalties. In response to the above facts, it is hoped that the police will not
interfere with PERBASI's jurisdiction during the 4 x 10-minute match because in accordance
with FIBA regulations, which state that the 4 x 10-minute on-court time is the authority of the
referee as the referee in the match.
