Abstract

The planning of an effective street lighting system is very important, especially in areas prone to crime and accidents. Lighting that meets standards can minimize accidents and enhance comfort in public spaces, as well as provide a sense of security, comfort, and convenience for road users, particularly during the night or in bad weather conditions. However, street lighting still often becomes a source of problems, especially in terms of high energy consumption. Therefore, optimization of the lighting system is necessary to improve energy efficiency. Research on the existing lighting system shows that conventional lamps, namely 150W and 250W high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps, are still being used, with shortcomings in light distribution and energy efficiency. Simulations using Dialux show that the average luminance of the existing lighting only reaches 0.60 cd/m² with a uniformity level of 0.40, while the energy consumption reaches 20 kW along the road. Optimizing the lighting with 120W LED lamps results in improved energy efficiency and lighting quality. The average luminance increases to 0.80 cd/m² with a uniformity of 0.60, while energy consumption shows a 40% saving, from 20 kW down to 12 kW. Additionally, the glare level decreased to 25 from the previous 30, which indicates an improvement in visual comfort. This is a positive impact of applying LED lamp technology, which not only provides better lighting quality but also reduces operational costs and enhances energy efficiency.
