THE ROLE OF VILLAGE GOVERNMENT IN MAINTAINING RELIGIOUS
HARMONY IN CEWENG VILLAGE, DIWEK DISTRICT, JOMBANG

This study is entitled "The Role of the Ceweng Village Government in Maintaining
Religious Harmony in Ceweng Village, Jombang." The purpose of this study is to analyze
and understand how the Ceweng Village government carries out its role in maintaining
inter-religious harmony in the village. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case
study method. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and
document analysis. The results of the study indicate that the Ceweng Village government
plays a central role in facilitating religious harmony through various policies, programs,
and activities that involve all elements of society. The village government has issued
village regulations that support interfaith harmony and actively involves religious leaders
and the community in dialogue and joint activities. In addition, social and religious
programs initiated by the village government have proven effective in increasing tolerance
and solidarity between religious communities. The implementation of this policy is not
without challenges, such as the potential for conflict and differences of opinion among
residents. However, the village government has succeeded in mediating and resolving
conflicts with an inclusive and participatory approach. Full support from religious leaders
and the communityalso plays an important role in the success of efforts to maintain
religious harmony. This study concludes that the active role of the Ceweng Village
government, supported by community participation and collaboration with religious
leaders, is a key factor in maintaining religious harmony in Ceweng Village. These
findings contribute to the understanding of the importance of the role of local government
in promoting tolerance and harmony in diverse communities.
