Abstract

This study aims to examine the integration of religious and general sciences within the educational system of Pondok Pesantren Darul ‘Ulum Agung Malang. As an Islamic educational institution, the pesantren plays a crucial role in shaping the character and knowledge of its students. With the advancement of the times, there is a need to integrate religious studies with general sciences to ensure that pesantren graduates can compete in the modern world without losing their religious values.
This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research informants included the pesantren’s caretakers, teachers, and students. Data analysis was conducted thematically to identify patterns of integration between religious and general sciences.
The results of the study indicate that Pondok Pesantren Darul ‘Ulum Agung Malang has successfully integrated these two types of knowledge through a structured curriculum and comprehensive educational programs. This integration is evident not only in classroom teaching but also in extracurricular activities that support the development of students’ skills and knowledge. The challenges faced in this integration process include differences in perspectives between religious and general science teachers and limited resources. However, with strong commitment from all parties, the pesantren has been able to create an educational environment that harmonizes and balances religious and general sciences.
This study is expected to serve as a reference for other Islamic educational institutions in their efforts to integrate religious and general sciences, and to contribute to the development of Islamic education in Indonesia.
