Abstract
ABSTRACT
WARAS HARIANTO. The Meaning of the 2024 Election for First-Time Voters
in Rejo Slamet Village, Mojowarno District, Jombang Regency (Case Study of
Sociatri Students of Darul Ulum University, Jombang).
The 2024 election is an important moment in Indonesian democracy,
especially for first-time voters who are participating in the general election process
for the first time. In this context, first-time voters are individuals who have just
entered legal voting age, usually aged 17-21 years. Their participation in the
election is crucial because they represent a new generation that will determine the
future direction of the nation. The aim of this research is expected to provide a
valuable contribution to the development of better political education strategies
and more effective campaigns for novice voters, not only in Rejo Slamet Village,
but also in other areas with similar characteristics. Through this research, it is
hoped that a clearer picture can be obtained regarding the challenges and
opportunities faced by novice voters in understanding and participating in the 2024
elections. This research uses qualitative research methods, where data is obtained
using interviews, observations and documents. Determining informants using
purposive techniques and data analysis using the analysis model proposed by Miles
and Haberman.
The research results show that novice voters in Rejoslamet Village are
interested in participating in elections because of their awareness of democratic
rights and responsibilities, hope for change and improvement, desire to fight for
the interests of the people, rejection of negative practices in elections, and the need
for adequate political education. Beginner voters' understanding of the importance
of elections has a good understanding of the importance of elections in a
democratic system, including the concept of elections, the objectives of holding
elections, and hopes for the 2024 elections. Factors that influence novice voters'
decisions in choosing candidates include political education, public awareness
about the rights and responsibilities as citizens, as well as honesty and fairness in
the electoral process.
