Abstract

Abstract
The need for electricity in Indonesia continues to increase every year considering the increasing population in Indonesia. Indonesia's large electricity consumption will be a problem if the supply is not in line with the needs. Power plants operating in Indonesia are generally dominated by power plants that use coal or fossil fuels as their main fuel. This requires special attention and anticipation in advance, considering that coal is a non-renewable material. One of the concerns that must be done is to encourage practitioners and academics to examine other potentials of power plants with renewable energy sources, Wind Power Plants are Power Plants that have the main advantage because the nature of the material is renewable, this means that the exploitation of this energy source will not cause problems. diminishing wind resources as well as the use of fossil fuels. This paper discusses the Modified Firefly Algorithm (MFA) method as a Proportional Integrator Derivative (PID) controller tuning parameter to adjust the wind turbine speed with pitch angle control. The MFA controller is used to control the pitch angle of the wind turbine with a Permanent Magnet Synchrounous Generator (PMSG). When the wind speed is low below the average value, the speed regulation must be able to maintain the speed at a level. Then it will provide maximum output power, so that the turbine efficiency will increase. Setting the pitch angle is required in conditions of wind speed above the desired. Small changes in pitch angle can affect power output. Pitch angle control is one way to adjust the aerodynamic torque of the wind turbine when the wind speed is above the rated speed. From the trials conducted, the results of the running program show that the tuning system uses the most optimal MFA method which produces a pitch angle value of 65.4 - 85.6 (deg) and a mechanical torque value of 4.045 - 4.98 compared to Uncontrol, the PID Controller method and Ziegler-Nichols PID method.
