Abstract

Korosi merupakan suatu kerusakan pada material (umumnya logam) dikarenakan reaksi elektrokimia antara material dengan lingkungannya. Banyak faktor yang dapat menyebabkan korosi suatu material, salah satu diantaranya yakni pengaruh konsentrasi media korosi. Ada banyak metode untuk menghambat proses terjadinya korosi. Salah satu diantara banyak metode yaitu penggunaan inhibitor. Inhibitor organik salah satu jenis inhibitor yang bersifat non toksik, murah, sudah tersedia di alam, mudah di perbaharui dan tidak merusak lingkungan. Inhibitor organik tersebut di peroleh dengan mengeskstrak beberapa bahan yang ada di alam. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan ekstrak kembang kol sebagai penghambat laju korosi. Inhibitor tersebut digunakan pada material baja karbon ST 37 dalam media HCl 0,5 M. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengambil data pada pengaruh konsentrasi inhibitor dan waktu perendaman pada proteksi baja karbon rendah dengan penambahan inhibitor ekstrak kembang kol pada larutan HCl 0,5 M ini menggunakan metode berat yang hilang. Faktor A berpengaruh terhadap konsentrasi laju korosi baja, faktor B berpengaruh terhadap waktu perendaman pada laju korosi baja, faktor interaksi antara konsentrasi inhibitor ekstrak kembang kol dan lama waktu perendaman pada baja karbon ST 37 terhadap laju korosi baja.

Corrosion is a damage to a material (usually metal) due to an electrochemical reaction between the material and its environment. Many factors can cause corrosion of a material, one of which is the influence of the concentration of the corrosion media. There are many methods to inhibit the corrosion process. One of the many methods is the use of inhibitors. Organic inhibitor is a type of inhibitor that is non-toxic, inexpensive, readily available in nature, easy to renew and does not damage the environment. The organic inhibitors are obtained by extracting several materials that exist in nature. In this study, cauliflower extract was used as a corrosion inhibitor. The inhibitor was used on ST 37 carbon steel material in 0.5 M HCl media. The method used to collect data on the effect of inhibitor concentration and immersion time on the protection of low carbon steel with the addition of cauliflower extract inhibitor in 0.5 M HCl solution was using lost weight method. Factor A affects the concentration of the corrosion rate of steel, factor B affects the immersion time on the corrosion rate of steel, the interaction factor between the concentration of cauliflower extract inhibitor and the length of time immersion in ST 37 carbon steel on the corrosion rate of steel.
